SPECIAL UPDATE 20/01/2001 : '2001 - A MAZE ODYSSEY' |
New Year's Day saw our volunteers taking a break from their usual tasks, in order to staff an on-site stall for Millennium Maze flagstone dedications. This popular scheme to support the Darwin Gardens Trust has operated throughout Millennium Year at the Town Hall, and has resulted in over 400 of the maze flagstones becoming dedicated to a wide variety of individuals, businesses and societies. On this occasion, visitors to the Green responded to our suggestion to symbolically 'set in stone' their New Year's resolutions!
The last available special feature flagstone has been dedicated by The Green Health Shop. With its reputation for dealing with 'natural emergencies' it was only natural that this well-known local enterprise should become associated with flagstone number 999! We look forward to laying this and the other remaining feature flagstones during the coming year.
In response to many enquiries from the public, we have drafted an information leaflet on Darwin Gardens Millennium Green which we intend to release at the end of this month, via Ilkley Tourist Information Centre. The leaflet also includes a map and a postal application form for maze flagstone dedications.
In addition to this we have from today added a flagstone dedication service to our website. A full list of available flagstone numbers will be maintained in conjunction with the interactive maze map, plus an application form which can be printed out for posting. Please remember that all our progress updates, plus a host of other information about Darwin Gardens Millennium Green is available on-line at www.darwingardens.co.uk
Ilkley Parish Council are unfortunately unable to continue supporting the flagstone dedication service at the Town Hall; however they have kindly given permission for the trustees of the Millennium Green to hold their first Annual General Meeting in conjunction with the next Parish Council Open Meeting. This should provide an ideal forum for members of the local community to liase with the trustees on present progress and future plans for the Millennium Green, so we hope that the occasion will be well attended.
ALL WELCOME!
