UPDATE 2 : 18 August 1998 'GERMINATION'
|
Following the Parish Council's favourable reception of the proposal
for 'Darwin Gardens', a delegation of councillors were conducted on a tour
of the site, followed by a meeting with the scheme's proposers. Whilst
offering their enthusiastic support, the delegation pointed out that Ilkley
Parish Council were not currently able to commit significant funding towards
the scheme, which will need to seek financial support from a variety of
sources. To further this aim, proposers are now considering the formation
of a 'Darwin Gardens Trust', with registered charity status, which would
undertake to:
appeal for funding in the form of donations, grants and sponsorship
co-ordinate the proposed program of works at the site
liaise with Bradford Council and other relevant agencies
organise a suitable level of continued site maintenance
Progress with Darwin Gardens will however depend essentially on all of
us - not just a body of trustees, but everyone in the local community who
would like to lend a hand. This project will give all Olicanians, as individuals
or groups, an opportunity to join together in making a landmark for our
common posterity, and to celebrate the New Millennium by creating a feature
which will combine reverence for the past with inspiration for the future.
We are actively seeking offers to contribute in any of the
following ways:
further suggestions for planting schemes and other landscape features
specialist construction skills and technical or artistic advice;
labour, tools and materials;
fund-raising capabilities;
sponsorship;
publicity.
So please get in contact with us to find out more about the scheme,
and let us know what you would like to do for DARWIN
GARDENS
